Please write the two Emerson quotes you have chosen to respond. Also write the name of poem that you are using to compare the selected Emerson quote. Write a well constructed paragraph that link the thought of the quote with a similar attitude found within the selected poem.

1)
“Every man in his lifetime needs to thank his faults.”
Days” by Ralph Waldo Emerson
In the poem “Days” each “day” brings a gift. This is exactly what it sounds like. The poem uses personification to preach that each day brings a gift. The quote “Every man in his lifetime needs to thank his faults” is an excellent way of describing what could happen if you accept or take the days gift. Things that happen in life can be started by something so simple. Such as, deciding to go somewhere instead instead of staying home. Something that happens in the time you decided to go the whatever place could completely change your life. That one simple action develops into a chain of happenings that started with one simple choice. The oe sp -1 fault a person could make could be the difference of becoming a millionaire or going bankrupt. So, the conclusive statement i am going to make is, that this quote and this poem relate in a way that talks to people and tells them how their life can be or has been played out. Not a bad close to your thought. Now, we will have to work on cleaning this up . . . avoid using prepositions to end sentences . . .but that is for later .

2)
“With the past, I have nothing to do; nor with the future, I live now.”
Write It On Your Heart” by Ralph Waldo Emerson
The poem “Write It On Your Heart” by Ralph Waldo Emerson stresses the importance of forgetting about the past, not worrying about the future, and living your life day by day, hour by hour, and minute by minute. This is exactly what the quote “With the past, i have nothing to do; nor with the future, I live now.” is describing. Life life as it comes to you, and live it to the fullest. To make the point more fully, use an example. You need the example for opinion validation purposes. -1

Define Allegory and discuss how symbolism is found within the short story work together to show the audience Poe’s theme of “death held illimitable dominion over all”.

“Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words” is a quote from Edgar Allan Poe that describes the way he writ
es his poems. In the story “The Masque of the Red Death” Edgar Allan Poe uses Allegory. Allegory is a writing that uses symbols such as characters, objects, or actions to represent something else. Poe uses symbolism to explain the process from the beginning of life to death through different colored apartment rooms. Poe also uses in his title “The Masque” to represent the mask that many people wear throughout their life. A third occurrence that tells us that Poe used Allegory throughout his story is when he uses the ebony clock to describe the end of time.
The first example of symbolism that Poe uses in his story is the differently colored apartment rooms to represent the way life progresses from beginning to finish. The rooms are arranged in an order in which each room means
something different to represent the period of life that someone is experiencing. For example violet is the next to last room because it is the sacred/religious period of life in which they understand that death is near. The last room is death, which means death and the end of life. This is one example of symbolism in the story “The Masque of the Red Death”.But the key is to make it relate to the theme that Death will hold illimitable dominion over all . . the symbols must relate directly to theme/organization
The next example I am going to explain is the “The Masque” and what it is supposed to represent in the story. “The Masque” is a symbol for the mask a person wears throughout their life. A person’s life is like Halloween all year around so to say. Not one human being but himself or herself knows what is under that mask. In the story the Prince Prospero has a party with his “thousand hale and light-hearted friends form among the knights and dames of his court”. At this gathering everybody is wearing a mask. Poe uses the mask as a symbol to represent how the thousand friends of the Prince Prospero act around him. They know that it is an advantage to be a friend of the Prince. Why, because he is prosperous hence the name Prince Prospero. That is why Poe uses “The Masque” as a symbol on his story. But how does this relate to the theme of the story . . . always tie it in to the theme
The last example of symbolism I am going to explain because I think it a major addition is the ebony clock. Ebony is black which in the story means death. The clock is used to tell time which in the story means the time a person lives. The ebony clock in the story is placed on the western wall of the black room. It is used now to describe the end of time, or death. “Its pendulum swung to and fro with a dull, heavy, monotonous clang”. Now for most people death is a feared happening. The reason Poe makes this clock have a dull and monotonous clang is because the clock meaning end of time. Death is not a happy and spontaneous celebration. The day that someone dies is very sad and mournful. The ebony clock was used by Edgar Allan Poe to describe the day of death and the end of time. for every person . . .make sure you have a tight connection to the theme . . ..
Poe’s use of Allegory on the short story “The Masque of the Red Death” may be confusion for someone that just started reading Edgar Allan Poe stories, but once a person thinks about it for a while it will all start to fall into place. Poe is a great writer of Allegory and in my opinion the best of all time. Some may agree and some may disagree but Poe is a very good writer. Poe’s symbolism makes one think long and hard but once one understands it some of Poe’s wiseness may rub off on to them. Edgar Allan Poe’s Allegorical short story “The Masque of the Red Death” uses many symbols of which eventually piece together to describe the lifetime of a human being.Good conclusion . . .one of the better one’s I have read.

Kyle Wise Period:2 “What Women Want in Life”

What does a woman want in life? Most women are extremely attracted to guys who are calm and know what to do in panic situations. Women also want the guy that cares for them and tries to help when something bad happens or they are “down in the dumps” so to speak. A woman wants to be able to be themselves and talk about anything with their mate. Woman are attracted to guys that are handsome and have a good heart to fit their own heart. A guy with the same interests as a girl are likely to last longer together. So, women look for a perfect match in personality and interests. Therefore a woman wants the perfect guy to have a relationship and eventually get married to. Not only does a woman want the perfect guy to spend their life with, but they want a clean house and a god job. I mean who doesn’t want that? Like any American male or female a woman will want a clean house and a good job. Depending on the woman a female will want a kid or a few. American females create new generations of people every day of every month and so on. Women want a perfect soul mate to spend the rest of their life with and get a good job to keep the kids fed and the house clean. That is “What Women Want in Life”.

I think that the singer of the song “Just A Girl” is completely wrong. If a girl wants to do something she will tell a man that she wants to, and if if the man is like most men he will let her do whatever it is she wants to if he thinks it is safe for her. Chances are if the thing the girl wants to do is safe the man could care less if she doe it. On the other hand if the situation is not safe the man will tell his female because he is concerned for her safety. Guys don’t want to treat women as little kids. They know that they don’t want to be treated as a little boy so they don’t do it to their girl. “Do unto others as you would want done to you”. A common guy will understand and live by this. Its not like women don’t have any say in the relationship. If a women wants something to happen 9 out of 10 times it does. For example something as simple as where you go for dinner. None of the two will win. They will negotiate to figure out an answer that is best for the two of them. So in my opinion the singer of “Just A Girl” is completely wrong in the lyrics of her song.

Period: 2 Kyle Wise Blog: Marriage

“What are the social limitations of a woman when selecting a man to marry?” A woman wants the man that is kind to her cares for her and feels her pain. When a woman is having a bad day they will want a man that will sit and talk with her to work out the problem. Not the guy that will just say “yeah okay whatever, i don’t really care”. That will just make everything even worse because she will know that her man does not care about her feelings. Another social limitation that a woman has for a man is a woman wants the guy to be sweet to her and let her know that he cares and tell her that he loves her every day know matter how the day went or was going. If a man does that for a woman the relationship or marriage will usually last longer because there will be no doubts about their love for each other. One other limitation to a man that a woman looks for is the guy helping with cleaning or cooking and working to keep everything “chugging” and in order. If the guy sits around and does nothing all day and doesn’t have a job the woman is doing all the work. It’s not fair to the women if the guys do nothing to help with bills being paid, keeping the house and its surroundings in order, or something so simple as to turn off the Television and help with dinner. These are just a few of the social limitations a woman has for a man.

Period: 2 Kyle Wise Blog: Misogyny

It is very obvious that the writer of the short story “The Necklace” believes strongly in misogyny. There are several examples in the story to prove this statement. In the story when Madame Loisel is crying and complaining about everything proves her selfishness. She is complaining about the worst things that could happen or have happened. She has plenty of good things in her life. Madame Loisel is not poor. In the beginning if the story when the husband brings home the invitations to the party the woman get mad at him! Here the man does something nice for his wife and she just can never be happy. She has a maid to cook for her and do her laundry.
You are a very good writer technically, but here you are not developing the content to its potential This is a middle class couple in these ages. The writer of “The Necklace” portrays the main character of the story as being a spoiled rotten brat. Her husband gives up his money that he had been saving for himself to buy a rifle to his wife to buy a dress for the party that they are going to. The husband spoiled his wife by getting the invitations in the first place! Really???? . . Then, as if she did could not deal with what she had, she needed jewelry. So, her friend gives her the jewelry and she loses it. Notice that the man does nothing wrong in the story, but everything seems to be on the downside for the woman.that is a good analysis . . .but what bothers me is this last sentence, you need to set it up a little better . . maybe I am stupid, but I am not making the connection . .. The writer of “The Necklace” is most definitely a Misoginist.

Madame Loisel can be characterized as an unhappy person full of character traits that are considered flaws. Please discuss three character traits that might be considered flaws, which lead to her unhappiness.

“It isn’t what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about” once quoted by Dale Carnegie describes the way Madame Loisel is characterized in the story “The Necklace”. In this story that is written by Guy de Maupassant the main character Madame Loisel has these three character traits; selfish, spoiled, and vain. These are the flaws that lead to her unhappiness. After all she is characterized as unhappy in the story.
One of the character traits that can be considered flaws that Madame Loisel has in the story is selfishness. When the husband brings home the invitation for the party for the couple all she thinks about is herself. She needs this she needs that. She could have just went with what she had and have been happy that she could go. She got what she wanted, a new dress and she still was not happy. Now she needed jewelry to wear to this party. Her friend Madame Foriester gives her a necklace to wear and Madame Loisel goes to the party and loses her friends necklace. She lost the necklace because she was thinking about herself the whole time she was at the party and worried about how she looked after the party and did not pay attention to what was important. Therefore, the character trait of selfishness fits Madame Loisel very well.
Another character trait that Guy de Maupassant places on Madame loisel in this story is the self-indulgent or spoiled. She is spoiled because her husband goes out and works for both of their living while she stays home and does nothing because they have a maid. The maid does all of the “dirty work” that Loisel could be doing while her husband is at work. Therefore, she does nothing all day and still gets what she wants. Madame Loisel is spoiled again when her husband gives up his money that he saved to get himself a rifle, to her for a new dress in which she did not need. She could have went to this party in the clothes she had, but she did not want to look poor. It is all about her, how she looks in public, and how she wants others to think of her.
A third of the many character traits that can be considered flaws about Madame Loisel is that she is vain. She always has to have more. Once she gets what she wants she does not think it is good enough. She worries constantly about what others will think of her. Madame Loisel cared so much about her look after the party that she lost the necklace. If she would have just let her husband drape the warm overcoat on the shoulders it may have helped keep the necklace either on or at least with her.
In the story Madame Loisel has been characterized by Guy de Maupassant as being a selfish, spoiled, and vain woman. These flaws are part of what leads to her unhappiness in the story. These are only a few of the problems she has in the story “The Necklace”, but other people may say that she has no flaws to her personality in this story. The author of this piece is mysoginist so she is characterized by him as a bad person. The characterization of Madame Loisel in this story all leads up to the whole point that the story is making when she loses the necklace after the party. Therefore, these character traits that are placed on Madame Loisel all piece together to her losing the necklace.

In this article the writer explains health and mental problems that can associate with loneliness. Such as, non-lonely people getting more sleep than lonely people, and the reasons for this. There are many problems according to the article that associate with loneliness. I have created and occupy a Facebook account. I think most people make these accounts so they won’t feel lonely, but it just makes matters worse when they post a comment or picture that someone may not like and decides to state their opinion on it. If the article written by Hara Estroff Marano is correct then the lonely people in the world have a completely terrible life, and never can be happy or move on. This can lead to doing bad things for both their mental and health state of being. Drinking and doing drugs are very popular for a lonely human being to do. These can cause major health risks and eventually lead to s shortened life. A mental problem that occurs in lonely people is stress. Stress is like a shot to the head; it puts you down and if you don’t get help it keeps you down. If you are a lonely person you need to gt help, or you will never rise back up to the mental and physical standpoint that you need to be at to live. Depression worsens and if one is addicted to drugs or alcohol your health will go way down and they will die sooner than if they would have gotten help from a professional.
